Pursuant to Decree No. 2017-821 of 5 May 2017 on the national maritime boundaries portal, the national maritime boundaries portal is designed and implemented by the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (Shom). It allows the consultation and dissemination of the limits of maritime spaces under the sovereignty or jurisdiction of the French Republic, as well as the related legal texts.

Consequently, the Shom must draw the attention of users to the following points

Restriction of use for maritime navigation

The cartographic elements distributed and available on the portal cannot be assimilated to a nautical chart and are therefore not intended to be used for maritime navigation. They do not in any way replace the official documents of the hydrographic services published under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).

Non-opposability of chart data other than the representation of the limits of maritime areas under the sovereignty or jurisdiction of the French Republic

Pursuant to Article 16 of Order No. 2016-1687 of 8 December 2016, only the cartographic representations of the limits of maritime areas under the sovereignty or jurisdiction of the French Republic (baselines, territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone, ecological protection zone, continental shelf) may be invoked against users of the sea on the date they are updated. All other information is provided for information purposes only and in no way replaces the relevant delimitations and/or official documents.

Unless otherwise indicated on the content of the site, all information disseminated on the national maritime limits portal is under the Etalab 2017 version 2.0 open licence (https://www.etalab.gouv.fr/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/ETALAB-Licence-Ouverte-v2.0.pdf) in accordance with the decree of 27 April 2017 n°2017-638 relating to licences for the free reuse of public information (...).
